New Mid Century Modern - Complete Renovation

Located in Black Mountain, NC this mid-century gem had not seen any improvements or renovations since construction in the 1950s. In 2021, the new homeowners wanted a thoughtful revamp in order to make it a suitable modern home for their growing family while maintaining the integrity of its original design. GRB struck a balance between the positive design qualities of the home and incorporated modern improvements to enhance the spaces rather than compete with them.

The underutilized basement was transformed from a laundry room and garage to a den area, home office, bathroom and laundry room. The incorporation of the former garage entrance created a light-filled living area that seamlessly flows between indoor and outdoor spaces.Special features in the basement include a radiant heated floor under an LVP floor throughout the space and custom mosaic in the shower depicting a river rock flow. 

The main level of the house included a new kitchen, new primary bedroom & bathroom suite, custom walk-in closet, new open-air living room and stairway rebuild.  New footings were excavated to transform the formerly cramped kitchen and living room into an inviting light-filled great room. To breathe new life into the upper floor, two bedrooms and a bathroom were completely remodeled and original hardwood floors were refinished.  

Thoughtful selection of environmental upgrades throughout the project included; utilizing Rubio water-based paste, incorporation of a low VOC flooring finish, replacing the oil furnace with a natural gas heater and installing a tankless water heater. High-end fixtures, custom cabinetry and craftsmanship created a tastefully modern home that stays true to its original design.
